Box Office Projections: ‘Incredibles 2’ to Post Best Animated Feature Opening of All Time

Ever since ‘Solo: A Star Wars Story’ bombed during the Memorial Day weekend, the summer movie season has been craving for another hit, especially Disney. It’s up to ‘Incredibles 2’ now. Coming off a massive 14-year wait, Disney has been pulling no stops with the marketing of this film. The original, back in 2004, made over $633M worldwide, and quickly became a family classic. Expectations are high with the sequel, especially from adults who got to see the original on the big screen. It holds an excellent 94% on Rotten Tomatoes. Fandango has said it’s already become the biggest animated pre-seller of all time, surpassing Finding Dory from 2016. Tracking is suggesting anywhere from $130M – $150M. It would have to do $135M to beat Dory’s record.
The other wide release this weekend, ‘Tag’, is expected to continue the trend of lackluster openings for raunchy comedies, as it’s expected to open with a low $12M – $16M. It holds a better than expected 60% on Rotten Tomatoes, but that wasn’t enough for ‘Game Night’, which had even better reviews but also had middling results.
